The Best Sugar Cookie Frosting!
Frosting Sugar Cookies with our family is one of the holiday traditions that I have years of memories tied to. Take it from us, we’ve tested so many variations of frosting and have all declared this recipe the Best Sugar Cookie Frosting because it tastes delicious, it’s easy to work with and it hardens up so the cookies can be packaged as gifts or stored. When I was a kid we would frost the cookies with butter knives and bowls of frosting, remember how hard it was to create designs with butter knives. Before Aaron and I had kids my mother-in-law gifted us a set of frosting bottles. Hello Game Changer! We had the best time decorating cookies with family and then our own kids got older and were able to start frosting cookies with us. This is the why behind all the work of baking cookies, mixing up frosting and cleaning up all of the messes - Memories. So many sweet and funny memories together. It’s why we’re so happy to give you our favorite sugar cookie frosting recipe. It really is the BEST! It tastes just like the kind our grandparents made and with the little tweaks we’ve given the measurements it works great in frosting bottles as well.

The BEST Sugar Cookie Frosting - just like Aunt Violet used to make
8 Tablespoons melted Butter
3/4 cup warmed Milk
2 teaspoons Vanilla
2 pounds Powdered Sugar
Food Coloring Color of your choice
In a medium bowl add the melted butter, warm milk and vanilla, then add in the powdered sugar. Mix on low until the powdered sugar is incorporated. Once it’s mixed in, turn the beaters up to high and whip the frosting for a minute to make it light and airy.
The frosting will be thinner when the ingredients are all warm. Once the butter comes back to room temperature it will thicken up. Pour the frosting into separate bowls to add food coloring, then pour into your frosting bottles before it thickens.
If the frosting has gotten too thick and hard to squeeze out of the bottles, take the tops off of the bottle and warm it in the microwave for 3-5 seconds. Seriously, do not leave it in for longer! It only takes a few seconds to soften it to a consistency that is easy to frost with.
Have so much fun filling your table with trays of cookies, bottles of frosting, sprinkles and best of all memories with your family and friends!
