Winter Retreat at Ciderpress Lane : An Immersive Garden Planning Experience

Join us here at Ciderpress Lane for a weekend away spent cozied up in our main room by the crackling fire dreaming over your garden beds, vegetable and cutting gardens. Our time together will be filled with winter feasts, spiced cappuccinos or mugs of fresh from the garden mint tea, and nibble boards to keep us all full and happy as we set time aside to dream over our gardens together. We are designing our time together to have space for you to plan and dream, as well as time together with Kelly, Aaron and fellow garden lovers to set your plans in place for the garden season to come. If you’ve ever wanted to have Aaron and Kelly help you design your garden, this is your chance! They’ll be available to sit one on one with each guest throughout the day on Saturday.

You are invited to come spend time at the table, pouring over garden designs, seed catalogues and garden inspirations. Each guest will receive our Garden Planning Ebook and full access to our Online Get Your Garden Started Workshop so you can begin the fun dreaming before we gather together.

Plus Kelly has some special homework for you to do before you arrive so you can be completely ready to dive deep into dreaming and planning. You’ll leave the weekend ready to start all your garden prep. It is amazing how freeing it is to dream together, to hear what other gardens are thinking about, creating and the tips and tricks they’ve discovered along the way..

Then we’ll gather at the farm tables for dinner and an evening of conversation and connection as we share a bit about what we’re hoping for the garden in the year to come. We’ll end our evening with sweet bites and coffee before we all head back to our lodgings for the night.

Saturday morning we’ll welcome you back into our main room for a cozy brunch of coffee cake, fresh fruit, coffee to enjoy as we each find a spot to dive into our garden planning. Kelly & Aaron will walk you thru a few tips before everyone dives in.

Our lunch will be easy to enjoy picnic style so everyone can choose to keep working away. Kelly & Aaron will join each guest to talk over their design, give input if you’d like, encouragement, ideas and help trouble shoot any areas you’re feeling stuck on.

As Dinner simmers away we’ll spend time sharing a glimpse at our garden designs and helping ourselves to the seed exchange - you just never know how one person’s garden can inspire your own! The Farm Table will welcome us back for a leisurely evening spent enjoying and sharing all of the beauty from our day dreaming.

Seed Starting Workshop

Seed Starting Workshop

We’re thrilled to be hosting this garden workshop with a focus on seed starting! This is such a fun winter project to get your garden started even earlier than it can outside. Starting your own garden seeds takes a little practice, some specific tools and we’re here to dive in to all of it!

This workshop is great for anyone who is hoping to jump start their garden this season by growing starts either inside under grow lights or in your own greenhouse. There are some different tools you’ll need depending on which route you’re going - and we’ll be sure to talk about both.

While we enjoy fresh scones and coffee, Kelly will teach you:

  • how to start different kinds of vegetable and flower seeds

  • you’ll learn about growing under grow lights as opposed to in a greenhouse

  • how to care for your seeds and then seedlings as they mature over the coming weeks

  • when to plant them out into the garden

  • and how to transplant them

    Each Guest will:

    • Plant their own Seed Tray with their choice of flowers and/or vegetable seeds. We will have snapdragons, sweet pea flowers, strawflowers, bachelor buttons, spinach, snap peas, lettuce and kale for you to choose from

    • We’ll talk about seed planting depth, tap roots, cold stratification, how some seeds require light to germinate and others do not all so your seed trays will fill with little seedlings in just a week or so.

This workshop will take place inside - we’ll be cozy and warm in our main room.

If you would like to dive into even more gardening fun join us at the Get Your Garden Started Workshop in April! We’ll be spending more time on how to prep your garden bed, compost, direct sowing your seeds, drip systems and watering. Plus each guest will get our latest cottage garden map and seeds to plant in your garden. Details for this workshop will be available soon.

We look forward to getting our garden seeds started with you!

Print Workshop with Mollie Marigold at Ciderpress Lane

We are thrilled to invite you join us for an afternoon with Kelly Welk and Mollie Marigold. Kelly will welcome you in to our main room to enjoy mingling and meeting new friends by the crackling fire, with a feast of savory and sweet small bites, winter spritzers and so much time to learn from Mollie how to create your own Linocut Print Art.

Click Here to Watch Mollie Create a Linocut Print …. this is what you’ll learn how to do!

All of the details are covered for this cozy winter afternoon enjoying a spread of our favorite recipes, bubbly drinks and steaming mugs of coffee and tea while we learn. Linocut Art is a type of Block Printing. Mollie will teach you how to carve your design into a linoleum block, roll on block printing ink and then print it on paper! The best part is that you’ll go home with your own Linocut Block ready to print to your hearts content…create your own gift wrapping, or cards, tea towels or shirts. You get to use your design however your heart desires.

No experience necessary and no tools required. All you need is to come with a heart ready to learn, hands ready to create and an afternoon to enjoy all the beauty of savoring life and making art together.

We will provide all necessary elements:

  • linoleum blocks

  • carving tools

  • ink

  • rollers

  • paper

  • and the most delicious spread of small bites to enjoy along the way

We look forward to welcoming you into an afternoon spent creating together!

Let us introduce you to Mollie! You can find out even more and follow her fun art journey at @MollieMarigold

Mollie grew up outside of Portland, Oregon, where her brother with autism sparked her interest in using art to make connections with people. Spending hours her brother drawing saints and nuns, she saw art as a cathartic outlet for them both. From there she discovered fonts and calligraphy, and it has since become a lifelong passion. She earned BA degrees in Political Science and Spanish and a Masters in Social Work from the University of Washington, but she always made time to make art, experimenting with new techniques and materials. Through her training as a social worker, Mollie learned the role art could play in healing and providing a positive outlet for people to express themselves

Watercolor On The Flower Farm

  • 22026 Bulson Road Mount Vernon, WA, 98274 United States (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Join us for this very special event at Twig & Vine flower farm: dahlias, watercolors, and a beautiful meal in lovely creative company!

This is your invitation to paint and play with Sarah Simon @TheMintGardener’s watercolor instruction, learn how to harvest dahlias with a lovely you-pick take-home bouquet with Deanna Kitchen @twigandvine, and enjoy delicious light bites and beverages with Kelly Welk @kellywelk, the owner of Ciderpress Lane and creator of #freedomdinners. Widely known for its exceptional scenery, Deanna Kitchen’s beautiful pacific northwest property is a perfect little day-getaway, tucked between the mountains and the coast just an hour north of Seattle, in the heart of Skagit county. Come enjoy this creative feast, take a mindful evening to pause the everyday and soak in the slow beauty of painting, flowers and good food.

**Ticket link will take you to an eventbrite site to purchase tickets, away from ciderpresslane.com.

The Painting

After this class with Sarah, you will be skilled and knowledgeable, with the new ability to see and recreate the watercolor process, layer by layer.

During our time together, you will learn the techniques Sarah uses for watercolor, and see how she uniquely teaches the foundations of this art as a transferable and mindful skill. Sarah teaches you step-by-step in her NEW book, Watercolor Workbook: Flowers, Feathers & Animal Friends, and once you know how to paint a few flowing washes, that knowledge can be used to paint a fabulous project together from the book. The possibilities are endless with this beautiful art form. Once you work through the foundations together, learn the steps to paint in her new book, together with Sarah. You will work on the pre-drawn template of the project in the book, so no drawing is required.

With this class registration, you will receive all of the materials you need to continue to paint at home: brushes, paints and of course…your own signed copy of Sarah's new Watercolor Workbook! Sarah cannot wait for you to join her; to fall in love with the flowing freedom of watercolor, and the beauty of watching paint and water dance along your pages.

The Flowers

Prepare to be immersed in beauty as you stroll up and down the flower field rows in peak bloom, taking in the unique beauty of over 500 dahlias, heirloom annual blooms and fragrant herbs and foliage for cut bouquets. After your you-pick session with Deanna, you'll not only leave with a lush bouquet of dahlias, but you’ll also be equipped with new knowledge and skills you can take home and apply to your garden or floral design endeavors. You'll learn how to identify proper stage of harvest for dahlias, annual blooms and foliage, how to harvest to encourage new growth in your plants, plus methods for post harvest handling to maximize vase life, floral design tips and inspiration for sharing flowers. A glass vase is provided, for you to safely tuck your blooms in for the journey home.

The Food

Kelly Welk is bringing her fresh from the garden Private Chef goodness straight to the flower farm. Creating a spread of savory and sweet lite bites for us to enjoy as we sip and stroll through the flowers. Her dishes are fresh and flavorful, made with all of the goodness straight from their gardens at Ciderpress Lane. She’s creating a feast of summer flavors that everyone can enjoy!
